The Northern Marianas tourism body says it wants government funding to rebrand the territory as a flower nation.

The Marianas Visitors Authority says the islands are well known as a beach destination but transforming them into a flower destination will help attract more tourists.

Some of the flowers that could be used include Bougainvillea, cordyline, hibiscus and orchids.

The project will be managed by landscape architecht Jun-Ichi Inada, who worked on the National Orchid Garden and Jacob Ballas Children's Garden in Singapore.
