Officials are in Port Moresby this week to assess progress one year out from next year's 2015 Pacific Games.
Contractors are continuing to work around the clock to complete venues and accommodation in time for the start of competition next July.
The Executive Director of the Pacific Games Council, Andrew Minogue, says the Games Organising Committee in PNG is doing a good job and the key priority is ensuring the fields of play are ready in time, even if the venues themselves are not fully complete.
"We've had some meetings with the key stakeholders here already this week. The construction program has accelerated quite considerably in recent months but we've got to keep a very close eye on it. That field of play is the critical issue for us. What happens after the event, with extra grandstand seating or other facilities at venues, is not so much a concern. Also, we're looking very closely at the timeframe for those facilities to be delivered at that standard in a timely fashion".
The Council will hold its Annual General Assembly on Friday and Saturday, where the membership will hear a revised proposal around including New Zealand and Australia in the Pacific Games.
