Russia is to be part of the multi-national observer group at Fiji's general election in September.
Russia will be represented by a lawyer and member of Russia's Election Commission, Elena Dubrovina.
On Friday the foreign ministers of both countries met in Moscow and vowed to strengthen their relationship.
They also committed to further cooperation in the UN, including on peacekeeping issues.
According to a Fiji government statement, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov commended Fiji's peacekeepers especially the Fiji operation at the Golan Heights which Russia is trying to equip with light weapons and other equipment.
Fiji's Foreign Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola thanked the Russians for their support towards Fiji when all others had abandoned them.
He said the Russian Government and her people have been a true friend to Fiji.
