CNMI hospital recertification delayed

2:31 pm on 27 June 2014

The Commonwealth Health Center in the Northern Marianas has another five months to rectify issues uncovered by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Failure to make the required improvements will mean funding cuts.

The US federal agency was expected to issue its final ruling on the hospital's Condition of Participation today.

It is the fourth extension for the CNMI's lone public hospital.

The agency says it gave the extension due to the extent of the deficiencies, the complexity of making fundamental, systemic changes, and the need to maintain access to hospital services for the territory's residents.
