A member of the Papua New Guinea government has expressed outrage at police treatment of the embattled Prime Minister Peter O'Neill.
Mr O'Neill's lawyers this week successfully sought a stay order on an arrest warrant served on him on Monday in relation to his alleged role in illegal payments to a law firm.
However the political fallout around police attempts to probe Mr O'Neill has triggered turmoil in the police hierarchy, the sacking of the Attorney General, and the disbanding of PNG's anti-corruption agency.
The Governor of Enga Province, Peter Ipatas, says the government is upset about the way police have investigated the case.
"And when you look at the way the Prime Minister of a nation has been treated as if he's a common criminal by police - the police, an agency of government going out to get a warrant before actually having the Prime Minister invited for questioning or anything - that is uncalled for."
