Shanghai in China has gifted the Vanuatu capital, Port Vila, more than 600 new street signs to mark 20 years of being sister cities.

A spokesperson of the Chinese embassy in Vanuatu, Xu Wei, says the gift comes after a delegation from Shanghai visited earlier this month.

The signs, which cost more than 85,000 US dollars, include street names, signs for hospitals and schools and road signs.

Mr Xu says the new signs will help improve the traffic situation in Port Vila.

The aim is to facilitate and improve the traffic conditions in Port Vila. You know, in Port Vila some of the name, place signs were lost. So this donation will help Port Vila residents.

Xu Wei says Shanghai is pleased to have marked the relationship between the two cities.
