Sport: Fiji athlete's father to bring body home

8:12 am on 14 June 2014

The father of athlete Roy Ravana Junior will fly to the United States today to bring his son's body home to Fiji.

The 20 year-old was killed in a shooting incident in Sacramento on Tuesday, while trying to help another person who was injured.

He was originally in the US on an athletics scholarship in Iowa, which he lost last year, but had just been accepted for another scholarship in Louisiana.

Two youths charged in relation to the shooting appeared in court in Sacramento on Thursday.

The President of Athletics Fiji, Jo Rodan Senior, says they are in contact with the family of Ravana Junior and are ready to help when needed.

"The dad is going over Saturday to the States to bring the body back to Fiji and the funeral will be next Saturday here in Suva. We just have to wait until the dad comes back and then we will go and do our normal presentation in our customary way and also see what sort of help he needs from Athletics Fiji".

Jo Rodan Senior says Athletics Fiji held a moments silence in memory of Ravana Junior and a further moment will be observed at an athletics meeting in Suva later today.
