CNMI ferry service feasibility plan shelved

A Tinian-Saipan ferry feasibility study plan in the Northern Marianas has been put on hold because of the Federal Highway Administration's concerns over funding and evaluation process.

The Department of Public Works Secretary Martin Sablan says while the feasibility study plan has been cancelled it does not mean it cannot be pursued in the future.

170,000 US dollars in funding for the planned Saipan-Tinian ferry service feasibility study is supposed to come from mainly the Federal Highway Administration.

But Mr Sablan said FHA is not keen on funding it at this time because the CNMI does not even have funds to buy and operate an interisland ferry system.
