The High Court in Suva will today rule on the Fiji Labour Party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry's application for his conviction and sentence for breaching the Exchange Control Act to be stayed.

Fiji Live reports Chaudhry's counsel, Anand Singh, confirming that an application for a stay was made before Justice Madigan in Suva on Thursday.

Chaudhry's lawyers are hoping his conviction and sentence will be stayed until the outcome of a hearing appeal.

Chaudhry was ordered to pay US$1.1 million by the end of next month, or face a 15 month prison term.
