Solomons disaster officials promise long term support

The Solomon Islands Disaster Management Office says it is continuing to help a considerable number of families which have returned to their homes from the evacuation centres after last month's floods.

It says it is helping them replant their crops and will provide them with food supplies until those crops are ready to harvest.

The organisation says its repatriation programme has seen a steady drop in the numbers in the evacuation centres, with up to 12 families leaving each day of the past week.

It says a considerable number of the affected families have also been helped to return to their home provinces.
