Papua New Guinea is calling for the revivial of the Pacific Cup rugby league tournament to boost the region's World Cup preparations.

PNGRFL Chair Sandis Tsaka and CEO Brad Tassell will make their case at the two-day Rugby League International Federation meeting, which starts in Sydney on Thursday.

The Pacific Cup was last staged in PNG in 2009, with the Kumuls winning the title ahead of Cook Islands, Fiji and Tonga.

Sandis Tsaka says a relaunch would provide valuable international competition ahead of the 2017 World Cup.

PNG is also hoping to add another test match to their schedule the week after the annual Prime Ministers XIII clash.
