The Solomon Islands Government says it is stopping 44 foreign workers for the Australian owned mining company Gold Ridge Mining Ltd from entering the country.
The company's parent, St Barbara, pulled all local and expatriate workers from the mine site shortly after the flooding which devastated much of Guadalcanal 3 weeks ago.
It said they were withdrawn for security reasons after people in adjacent communities started making incursions into the mine site.
The Solomons Director of Immigration says the workers indefinitely banned from the country are mostly company managers and executives.
The Government says the restrictions are to allow various departments to investigate safety and security at the mine site with regard to chemicals and explosive hazards.
