Sport: Pacific Games organisers focused on doing basics well

The Organising Committee for next year's Pacific Games in Port Moresby says it's important to get all of the basics right for visiting countries.

Food, accommodation and transport are always hot topics at both the mini and full Pacific Games events, with complaints about the menu offerings at the last Games in New Caledonia.

The chair of the PNG Games, Emma Waiwai, says they're determined to get the core

"We just had the New Caledonia delegation here and they said 'look there are three things that we are here to check on [that] our athletes will be satisfied with: the food, the accomodation and transport'. And so for us those are the three key items to make sure that our athletes are well looked after - they sleep well and they get to their games on time. The other thing also that was interesting last year [at the Pacific Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna] was the venues were probably not as grand as ours will be but the important thing is we provide the field of play to the international federation requirements".

The 2015 Pacific Games get underway in July next year.
