The Solomon Islands business community says it is extending help to flood victims on the Guadalcanal plains.

Members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry provided large dump trucks to evacuate people from flooded areas and donated water and clothes to flood victims in evacuation centres.

The Chamber's Chief Executive Officer, Jerry Tengemoana, says initial assistance was given to those in need around Honiara.

"I think there is a need to look into the victims in the Guadalcanal plains there is an estimate of 15,000 families been affected in that area. They certainly need some medical supplies basic cooking utensils and cutlery and bedding and clothing etc."

Jerry Tengemoana says an appeal for help has also been made to the business community in the region.

He says positive responses are also coming in from Solomon Islanders living abroad.
