Taiwan has donated 275,000 US dollars in aid to Solomon Islands in the aftermath of last week's deadly flooding.

The Solomon Star reports most of that will be chanelled through the National Disaster Management Office.

Taiwan is also giving its diplomatic ally 50 tons of rice.

A Taiwanese medical team of two doctors and a nurse is offering immediate help to those sheltering in evacuation centres.

Solomon Islands is one of five nations in the Pacific that have diplomatic relations with Taiwan and not China.
