The Oceania Champions League's record scorer Benjamin Totori picked up where he left off as New Zealand's Waitakere United opened their campaign with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Samoa champions Kiwi FC in Lautoka.

Sam French put the two time champions in front in the 19th minute before Totori sealed the result, cutting inside his defender and unleashed a low drive past the keeper just after the half hour mark.

In the other Group A encounter, Tahiti's Pirae edged the Solomon Warriors 2-1.

Former French league professional Marama Vahirua put the Tahitians in front after 12 minutes before Jimmy Tepa doubled the advantage with a header to the far post midway through the opening half.

The Warriors came out for the second half with increased determinationand were rewarded when James Naka pulled a goal back in the 56th minute but coach Moses Toata says his side simply ran short on time.
