Ways to improve trade between Samoa and American Samoa were the focus talks last week between the two countries.
American Samoa's Acting Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga and Samoa's Deputy Prime Minister Fonotoe Lauofo Pierre say their task is to identify trade barriers and see how they can be overcome.
American Samoan businessman Aaron Forsgren says both countries could benefit if duties and immigration were reformed.
"Lowering the import duty into Apia would be great. Years ago a lot of people from Apia used to come over and load up on the Lady Naomi, back then it was the Salamasina - that market's gone. That market's gone. We need to bring it back. It's the permit system, it's also the duties - Immigration needs to be reformed."
