Highest CNMI Govt budget in 5 years submitted

The governor of the Northern Marianas, Eloy Inos, is proposing the territory's biggest budget in five years.

Mr Inos this week submitted a budget of more than 134-million US dollars, saying the hike is a result of higher taxes from tourism growth and better compliance.

Despite a 10.9 million increase from the 2014 budget, the new spending plan covers more obligations but will also curtail some costs.

The CNMI governor has also urged the legislature to introduce more revenue-generating bills, just days after signing into law a measure that allows casino gaming in Saipan.
