The Solomon Islands has launched its new Police Act, after it came into force earlier this month.
The act comes with new regulations which include a Code of Conduct that police officers are expected to comply with.
The Minister for Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Chris Laore says the act addresses a number of important functions including governance, employment, police powers, offences, conduct and discipline.
The Special Co-ordinator of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands, Justine Braithwaite, said during the launch that it's one of RAMSI's main objectives to help the police maintain law and order with a view to promoting long-lasting peace and stability in the country.
She says the launch of the act is a significant milestone towards the realisation of that objective.
