Vanuatu's Justice Minister asks why a former public prosecutor is not in court

Vanuatu's new justice minister has called on the police to explain why a former public prosecutor has not appeared in court, despite there being a criminal case against her.

Christophe Emmelee says he is amazed to see that Kayleen Tavoa has not appeared over an alleged incident of careless driving.

Mr Emmelee says there is evidence from an eye witness, a medical certificate, and a complaint letter to the chairman of the Law Commission; but the complaint has disappeared mysteriously somewhere between the police and the public prosecutor's office.

Ms Tavoa has since resigned from her position, but Mr Emmelee says nobody, including senior government officials, is above the country's law.
