Nauru ignores criticism from Pacific chief justices

The Nauru Government is declining to comment on damning criticism of their removal of the chief justice and resident magistrate.

The controversial moves in January drew a rebuke from Pacific chief justices who gathered in Auckland last week.

They issued a statement strongly condemning the deportation of the resident magistrate Peter law and the revoking of the visa of chief justice Geoffrey Eames.

The justices say the events give rise to serious concerns about judicial independence and the operation of the rule of law in Nauru.

A spokesperson for the government says the Justice Minister David Adeang has nothing to say about the matter.
