Pacific Forum calls for broader conversation on new Pacific Plan

The Secretariat of the Pacific Islands Forum says it is important there is public feedback on suggested changes to the Pacific Plan.

The Plan, the region's roadmap for integration, is to be revamped.

A review team led by former Papua New Guinea prime minister, Sir Mekere Morauta, has issued what it calls a New Framework for Pacific Regionalism, which it says lays out manageable priorities, that are timely, simple, transparent and inclusive.

But the Forum's Pacific Plan advisor, Seini O'Connor, says before leaders meet to discuss these recommendations in May they want public help in further refining what the new Plan should focus on.

"And I think this is where having civil society and private sector and other actors come in and assist us in this thinking and helping to narrow down that focus is really a great opportunity because the review has said it, it is not just about officials being involved in this process, it is actually about broadening the conversation."
