The Refugee Action Coalition says the Australian government needs to come clean about whether there is any resettlement arrangement is in place for asylum seekers being detained on PNG's Manus island.
The Australian foreign minister, Scott Morrison, says it's understood 35 detainees escaped from the centre on Sunday night, eight of them were arrested, and 19 needed medical attention.
He says reports that asylum seekers had been informed they would not be settled in Papua New Guinea are false.
But the Refugee Action Coalition's Ian Rintoul says a statement was read to the protestors on Sunday afternoon, which inflamed the situation.
He says the statement was unclear whether there were to be formal resettlement arrangements for asylum seekers in PNG, or anywhere else.
"I've already publicly called for him to release that statement so we can all see what was said. Because I think it is in the public interest for everyone to know what conditions the immigration department has inflicted on people who are being sent to Manus island. The minister needs to come clean on whether there is a resettlement arrangement."
Ian Rintoul says more disturbances at the camp are inevitable.
