Fresh no confidence bid in Vanuatu

4:40 pm on 17 February 2014

There are reports from Vanuatu of another push for a motion of no confidence against the prime minister Moana Carcasses.

A government backbencher says the motion was supposed to be deposited last Friday but was delayed until this week because they lacked the numbers.

A motion needs to have the signature of 28 members of parliament before the opposition leader, Ham Lini, can deposit it with the speaker.

Our correspondent reports some government MPs are not happy Mr Carcasses has not honoured a promise to increase individual allocations to them from about 10,000 US dollars to 100,000 dollars.

Officially Mr Carcasses enjoys the backing of 36 members of the 52-seat parliament.
