Sodelpa says Fiji regime leader brought country to its knees

Fiji's Sodelpa Party has rejected claims by the prime minister that rival politicians want to re-empower the same elites who brought Fiji to its knees.

In a speech in Kadavu, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, also labelled unnamed others planning to contest the election as yesterday's men and women.

Sodelpa says this is the height of arrogance and accuses Commodore Bainamarama of being the one who has brought Fiji to its knees.

It says under his rule civilians have been tortured and the deaths of soldiers have never been investigated.

Sodelpa says the regime has created decrees that suppress basic human rights and freedoms, adding that he and the attorney general have written their own Constitution and foisted it on the nation.

It also rejects the prime minister's claim of there being a level playing field, saying in his regime it's the family connections and those close to him that get the jobs and the rewards.
