New Caledonia is on alert for another cyclone.
The Fiji metservice says tropical cyclone Edna at 1800 hrs UTC was about 632 kilometres north-west of New Caledonia.
It says the cyclone has maximum winds of 40 knots close to the centre, and is moving towards the southeast at 13 knots.
It says the category one cyclone is expected to pass close to New Caledonia sometime later today.
