The newly-appointed chairman of the Aoke/Langa Langa Tourism Association is pitching Malaita as a top tourist destination.

The Solomon Star reports Eddie Bibmauri made the call after his election last Friday in Auki.

Mr Bibmauri urged the Member of Parliament for Aoke/Langa Langa, as well as the Malaita provincial government, the ministry of tourism and culture and the Solomon Island Visitors Bureau to work closely with the new association.

He says it's a historic move and now the group will have to work hard to achieve the goal

Mr Bibmauri says his first job as the new chairman is to identify problems facing tour operators and to address them.
