The newly appointed minister of finance and national planning in Tonga says accepting the position has been a big decision as it is a challenging role.

Dr 'Aisake Valu Eke has been approved as Tonga's new minister of finance and national planning following the sacking of Lisiate 'Akolo last Friday, for refusing to resign after the Prime Minister asked him to step down.

Dr Eke told Television Tonga that with elections to be held this year, he believes he can serve the people with the skills and experience he acquired during the many years he worked for the ministry of finance.

He also pledged his commitment to the ministry, saying he is confident of better collaboration with the cabinet, members of parliament and the public.
