Samoan police say charges laid against a teenage boy for taking part in a video mocking the Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi will not be dropped.

The acting police commissioner, Misa Tala'imanu Keti says the boy has been charged with using insulting words for the video, which was widely circulated on social media.

Misa says the charges were reviewed today, and it was found the boy could be remanded on bail before his court hearing on the 27th of January.

He says the charges were not dropped to deter other youths and set an example.

Chiefs of the village of Sili in Savai'i have already fined the boy's family 4,300 US dollars, 30 cartons of tinned fish and two cows.
