American Samoa task force reviewing gun policies

2:47 pm on 9 January 2014

A task force has been established in American Samoa to review gun policies.

The Department of Public Safety is looking at arming police officers following training later this year.

The Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga says to allay concerns expressed by members of the community, certain approval bench marks must be satisfied thoroughly before the decision is implemented.

He says one of the benchmarks is to complete firearm training along with the completion of a psychological evaluation to determine the police officer's emotional intelligence.
