Absence of AG voids Solomons committee meeting

9:50 am on 5 December 2013

A planned meeting of the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee in Solomon Islands was cancelled this week because there is no Auditor General.

According to the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation, the Clerk to Parliament says under standing order 69, the Auditor General or his nominee is the secretary of the committee and should be present at the hearings.

The Committee is waiting for further advice from the Attorney General.

The former Auditor General Edward Ronia was suddenly removed from office last month, allegedly for having reached his retirement age.
