Israel offers Fiji election help

4:25 pm on 28 November 2013

Reports from Fiji say Israel is ready to assist Fiji in its preparations for next year's elections.

Israel's regional counsellor to the Pacific Islands, Jonathan Zadka, has told the Fiji Times that Israel is also considering sending election observers.

Mr Zadka says Israel has been encouraged by the progress Fiji has made so far and is hopeful elections will take place before September 2014.

The European Union has also offered an observer team as has the Commonwealth.

The Fiji regime is yet to appoint an electoral commission to oversee the promised poll.
