Fiji's Driti trial hears of focus on AG

The Fiji High Court has heard further testomony in the trial of a former Land Force Commander Pita Driti who is charged with uttering seditious comments and inciting mutiny.

Fijivillage reports that a police sergeant, Mereoni Tabaki, interviewed Mr Driti in Febraury 2011 after he had been sent on leave.

According to the witness, Mr Driti said he had discussed options with alleged co-conspirators but that it wasn't a coup plot to oust Commodore Frank Bainimarama.

Mr Driti reportedly wanted to monitor the attorney-general, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, for his alleged outside dealings.

Mr Sayed-Khayium is the regime's minister responsible for anti-corruption and frequently the acting prime minister.

The court has also heard that the alleged plot involved a planto kill the attorney-general by Christmas 2010.
