CNMI government wants lands back from hospital

7:09 am on 19 November 2013

The Northern Marianas governor, Eloy Inos, wants the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation to return two parcels of land his predecessor gave to the hospital, as a means of helping the cash-strapped agency augment its meagre income.

The former governor, Benigno Fitial, assigned the two parcels of land on Navy Hill to the corporation at the beginning of last year as a means for it to raise additional revenue through land leases.

The hospital board's chair, Joaquin Torres, confirms the request from the Inos administration but says they will first have to talk with their lawyers on whether returning the land to the government is in the best interests of the Corporation.
