A veteran journalist working for Reporters Without Borders says the media situation in Papua New Guinea is getting worse.
Bob Howarth, who is the PNG country correspondent for the Paris-based organisation, has asked for help with the growing threats to media freedom.
On Thursday the media advisor for the Sustainable Development Fund, Mark Davis, was deported.
Mr Howarth says there has been a deafening silence from media groups about the threats.
"It appears that the PNG Media Council has virtually collapsed and there are several looming threats to press freedom in terms of journalists being downgraded in the National Brodacasting Corporation for apparently the way they covered the elections."
Bob Howarth.
The PNG broadcaster says three senior staff members have not been demoted but re-assigned to special duties.
