Tourism figures released in French Polynesia show an eight-percent drop in arrivals in August compared to the same month last year.
The drop has also affected cruise ship travellers, with a fall-off in visitors from Europe.
Over the past year, there were just under 170,000 tourists.
The occupancy rate is up but that is due to several hotels having closed.
