The acting governor of the Central Bank of Samoa says people need to be more vigilant when giving out details like their bank information
The Central Bank says more than 214,000 US dollars has been lost to con artists over the past five years.
Acting Governor, Gilbert Wongsin, says more than 50 cases have been referred to the Central Bank over the last 24 months.
He says often locals are contacted via the internet or cell phones.
Mr Wongsin says people should be aware or become suspicious if something sounds too good to be true.
"If you don't know the person that's talking to you from the other end or you haven't met this person, or you haven't even bought a lottery ticket, you should be concerned about giving out your personal information, especially your bank accounts, your identification details."
The acting governor of the Central Bank of Samoa, Gilbert Wongsin, says public notices warning people of such scams have been sent to all media networks in Samoa.
