Parliamentarians in Papua New Guinea have passed legislation making any form of domestic violence an offence
The Family Protection Bill 2013 was passed by a vote of 65 for and none against.
The Bill covers assaults of spouses and family members, sexual offences and other abuse, including stalking and verbal attacks.
Those found guilty face fines of up to 2 thousand US dollars and imprisonment for up to 2 years.
The bill also protects the parties in polygamous marriages.
