Westpac Fiji's microfinance market has strengthened since 2010, starting with 29 micro-entrepreneurs to 80 in three years.

The Fiji Times reports Westpac Fiji's acting general manager, Nirosh Weerasinghe, saying the bank's decision to host the night market on October the 3rd in the capital, Suva, followed a number of successful microfinance markets at the Suva branch, Garden City and the Fiji National Provident Fund Downtown Boulevard.

The event was organised in partnership with the Suva City Council, which is providing the venue at Central car park on Central St free.

Mr Weerasinghe says it's great to see how the markets have evolved over the years and pay even more attention to quality, presentation, packaging and pricing.

He says Westpac was making positive changes to the lives of micro-entreprenuers by conducting business basic workshops to help participants run their businesses successfully.

He added that many micro-entrepreneurs' families had undergone the financial first steps workshop which helped them to understand the importance of budgeting and saving.
