Low paid government workers in American Samoa to get boost

1:19 pm on 2 September 2013

The American Samoa governor, Lolo Matalasi Moliga, has announced a pay increase for government workers making less than $10,000 a year will come into effect in October.

Lolo says the departments of Education and Public Works have many workers making less than $10,000 a year.

And if the Fono approves the 2014 budget, Lolo says all the workers as well as those in other executive branch departments and agencies will have their annual pay increased to at least $10,000.

He says they have been working tirelessly serving the public, but many are on wages as low as 7 thousand dollars which is not sufficient to provide for their families.
