French Polynesia's Fritch wants domestic issues kept out of Forum

The leader of French Polynesia's territorial assembly says it's a pity the territory's domestic issues have come up in relation to this week's Pacific Islands Forum.

Edouard Fritch was responding to former President Oscar Temaru's intention to go to this week's Forum summit in the Marshall Islands.

Mr Temaru has since dropped his plan to attend and tell the other leaders about President Gaston Flosse's convictions for corruption.

Mr Fritch says Mr Flosse's guilty verdicts earlier this year did not sway his own people from electing him and also shouldn't concern other leaders.

"It's a pity for us, it's a pity for us. I don't think it's a good opportunity to go Majuro, or Honolulu or in Auckland to talk about our problems, our local problems."

Edouard Fritch.
