Tonga King officiates at USP in Fiji

6:20 pm on 4 September 2013

The Tongan monarch, King Tupou VI, is visiting Fiji for the first time to officiate at the USP's graduation ceremony on Friday.

The Fiji Times says to mark the occasion, the Tongan community in Fiji will conduct a formal welcome ceremony for him.

The King is the university's 20th chancellor and was appointed at the USP Tonga graduation ceremony in July.

His late father, King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, was the university's first chancellor.

About 700 students will graduate at Friday's ceremony.
