The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Gordon Darcy Lilo, says he wants the crew on the country's patrol boat to be re-armed.
The vessel undertakes surveillance of the Solomons' exclusive economic zone.
The Solomon Star reports the prime minister, who has recently been on the vessel during its patrol work, as saying the marine officers need to be armed so they can carry out their duties without fear.
In 2003, all firearms were seized by the Regional Assistance Mission.
