Fiji offers Solomons help towards 35th independence celebrations

Fiji has offered more help to the Solomon Islands on the 35th anniversary of Solomon Islands' independence.

The Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, is visiting Honiara to mark the anniversary and has spoken of strong historical ties between the two countries.

He also talked of the Melanesian brotherhood that binds the countries through the Melanesian Spearhead Group.

Commodore Bainimarama says Fiji is willing to step up assistance with more personnel and resources.

The regime leader headed a contingent of 200 from Fiji including military troops and police, many of whom had served as peacekeeprs with the Regional Assistance Mission.
