Rugby League Samoa says former coach Steve Price will remain involved with the national team in some capacity, despite standing down this week.

The Parramatta Eels and New South Wales assistant Matt Parish has replaced Price in charge in of Toa Samoa, and will lead the team at the World Cup in the Northern Hemisphere later this year.

Rugby League Samoa President Tagaloa Faafouina Su'a says Steve Price came to the conclusion he could not fully commit himself to both the St George Ilawarra and Samoa head coaching roles.

"He thinks this is in the best interest. It won't be fair for us not to have his full commitment to the team and with the World Cup, events of this magnitude, it requires a lot of commitment and he thinks it's better for us to find another suitable candidate to take the team and he's still helping us behind the scenes. He's not leaving us for good - he's still trying to put in, contribute in any way."
