American Samoa's governor has revealed that the government's budget for fiscal year 2014 is likely to provide incentives for businesses to employ young adults, including possible tax breaks.
Lolo Matalasi Moliga told cabinet directors that the proposed budget for the new fiscal year is 20 million US dollars more than the current fiscal year.
He says most of that money goes into programs to help develop the local economy and attract foreign investors.
He says about 1 million dollars will be provided for helping employ college graduates, who are currently unable to find jobs in the territory, gain employment in the private sector.
"And after a year or so, we'll prepare a tax plan where they can get a break for every dollar they spend for every dollar they spend to employ that person. Not only will it provide the management skills and leadership in the private sector, but we're also promoting the private sector to become a stronger backbone for our economy."
