Sport: Pacific Mini Games boss says Wallis and Futuna will be ready

The Executive Director of the Pacific Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna, Eddy Filipponi, says preparations are on track a month out from the opening ceremony.

The ninth edition of the Mini Games get underway on the September the 2nd and will be the first time the French territory has hosted an event of this magnitude.

Eddy Filipponi says the competition venues have not had a chance to be tested yet but will be ready come next month.

"The different venues will be delivered within the next three weeks, so just in time for the Mini Games. We've got assurance from the administration for that. All the sports equipment for the Games is now stores [and] all the food supplies is about to reach the territory by sea. The entire Wallis and Futuna population is eager to welcome their brothers and sisters from the whole Pacific and let them discover the territory."

809 athletes from 20 countries and territories will contest the Wallis and Futuna Games, with the Northern Marianas and Tokelau opting not to participate.
