Samoa Parliament extends time to investigate MP dishonesty allegations

1:28 pm on 6 August 2013

Samoa's parliament has endorsed a three-month extension given to a special parliamentary committee to probe dishonesty allegations against the Ministry of Revenue in the collecting of tax and duty fees for imported goods.

The allegation made in parliament two months ago by the opposition MP, Levaopolo Talatonu, has resulted in a motion by the government for the MP to provide proof.

The special parliamentary committee was then appointed by the speaker to investigate more than 200 documents presented to the house by the opposition MP.

It was given a month to report to parliament by today, but the committee chairman, Lautafi Purcell, has secured an extension.
