Coconut oil exports from Samoa increase

4:32 am on 8 August 2013

The director of Women in Business Development Samoa says its virgin coconut oil exports are on the rise after receiving 18,000 US dollars worth of production equipment.

Adimaimalaga Tafuna'i says the equipment, donated by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community, will allow it to expand in Samoa.

She says it is also working with other Pacific nations, mainly with Tonga.

"Our markets keep expanding. We are actually working in other countries in the region together to see if we can eventually market together. So we've set up some new sites on the island of Savai'i and this is basically because of the increase in the market."

Ms Tafuna'i says she expects imports to their biggest customer, the Body Shop in the United Kingdom, to increase by more than 10 tonnes a year.

She says a Body Shop official has recently visited to see their production sites.
