One of the two police officers in American Samoa charged on allegations they allowed inmates at the Territorial Correctional Facility to go on a beer run to a nearby store, has pleaded guilty.

Fiti Aina, who was placed on leave since his arrest last year, pleaded guilty to permitting a prisoner to escape, while other related charges were dismissed under a plea agreement.

He could face up to five years imprisonment and a fine of up to $5,000 US dollars or both.

His co-defendant police officer Rocky Tua has denied the charges with his trail set for next year.
